Mark E. Gorman - Partner

Mark is a Founder and a Partner of GormanThayer, where he spends his time working with owners, entrepreneurs and management teams in assessing their requirements/needs, finding the right private equity partner for them and overseeing the execution of an investment.  Mark has spent the last ten years assessing alternative asset management firms who privately finance and invest in a variety of companies.  For the six years prior to founding GormanThayer, Mark worked at Attalus Capital, most recently as one of the firm’s three Partners, where he spent his time executing and managing that firm’s portfolio allocation and research efforts for both the private equity and hedge fund segments.  Prior to Attalus Capital, Mark worked at Hamilton Lane Advisors, where he was a member of the firm’s investment committee and managed the Buyout Business Unit.  Prior to his asset management career, Mark gained experience in both corporate finance and direct mezzanine and private equity investing while working at both CoreStates Financial Corp. and the Bank of Nova Scotia.

Mark received a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (minor in German) from the University of Pennsylvania.


Tom Hunter - Partner

Tom joined GormanThayer as a Partner in June of 2007.  Tom, who is a Certified Public Accountant, brings a strong financial accounting and analytical background to GormanThayer.  He spends his time executing transactions by working with companies to determine their appropriate valuation and to assist them with their financial forecasting positioning.  Tom joined the Firm from KMPG, where he was a Manager in the transaction services department.  At KPMG, Tom performed buy-side financial due diligence on companies, where he identified key risk areas and potential quality of earnings adjustments that impacted valuation models.  Prior to KPMG, Tom gained direct alternative investment industry experience through his tenure with Attalus Capital, where he served as their Controller and Chief Compliance Officer.  Before Attalus Capital, Tom was an Assistant Vice President with JP Morgan Investor Services Company, where he managed a nine member client service team that monitored SEC and IRS compliance of mutual fund products.  Tom also spent first five years of his career as an Audit Manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC, where he focused on servicing clients in the investment management industry.

Tom received a Master of Science in Finance from Boston University (2004) and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Penn State University (1990).  He is a licensed CPA in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Virginia, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.


R. Travis Coley - Business Development

Travis, who joined GormanThayer in June 2008, works with owners, management teams and entrepreneurs in assessing their goals and long-term financing needs. Prior to joining GormanThayer, Travis founded COLEY LLC, where he spent six years building a consulting firm focused on speeding market penetration and marrying capital with investment opportunities. A track record of success allowed COLEY to develop a diverse client roster of start-ups and established enterprises seeking growth capital to unlock their value. Travis currently sits on the Board of Advisors at GlobalPrint Systems, Inc. and Artemis Diagnostic Imaging, LLC, two companies in which he continues to be actively involved in the development of their business models and capital raising strategies. Travis started his professional career in the financial services industry working on the Equity Marketing team for Tucker Anthony, on an Equity Derivatives desk at Bankers Trust and as an Institutional Sales Trader with CIBC World Markets.

Travis received a Master of Business Administration from Lehigh University's College of Business and Economics, where he concentrated his studies on finance and entrepreneurial leadership. Travis also received a Bachelor of Arts from Lafayette College, where he graduated with honors. Travis is a member of the Board of Directors of the Markeim Art Center where he serves as Treasurer.
